The Sage Generation

We call them “Influencers”. You know. Those unusual people online who have the uncanny ability to get millions of likes, follows, and shares for their content. They’re entertaining. Their posts capture our attention. BUT — What if, just beyond your screen, you could see the influence that lives under your roof, in your family, and in the community right where you live? It’s wrapped up in people older than you, younger than you, and even — in you.

Genuine influence isn’t virtual. It’s right by your side.

Unstoppable Influence

Something powerful happens when the wisdom of the mature joins the passion of the young. At every stage of life, God's given us something to contribute and something to learn. When we make time to listen to one another and spend time with people who aren't at the same stage of life as us, we discover a much broader way to see the world.

Connecting Generations

As we mature, we grow into that sage generation that has either wisdom or experience.

  • Wisdom teaches the lesson before we make the choice.

  • Experience teaches the lesson after we make the choice.

But there’s a problem with age, wisdom, and experience comes temptation:

  • The temptation of history. I’ve been there and done that. I know what works. We don’t need to change. Just do it my way.

  • The discouragement of loss. We’re too old to be cool. We can’t keep up with the latest trends and aren’t interested anyway. Friends and family have faded or passed away. Our minds and bodies don’t cooperate quite like they used to.

But there’s hope. For some, it’s the hope they found when they were much younger. It’s the hope that’s found in Jesus. In Christ:

  • We find confidence that God is faithful.

  • We walk in the conviction of godly core values.

The more we experience God’s grace, the more grace we can freely give. In this season of life, we have an incredible gift to give to others. We become grace-givers who shine a light on God’s faithfulness and godly core values.

We Need You

You may retire from your job. You may not be responsible for all that happens in your family and community. But you can rest assured: We need you.

  • We need you: To show us God’s FAITHFULNESS.

  • We need you: To teach us godly HABITS.

  • We need you: To give us God’s GRACE.

Reflection Questions

  1. Identify your current source of guidance: Are you currently relying more on wisdom (learning before choosing) or experience (learning after choosing), and how can you share that insight with someone from a different generation?

  2. Evaluate generational blind spots: Which temptation resonates most with you right now—the temptation of history (resisting change) or the discouragement of loss (feeling left behind)—and how can focusing on God's faithfulness help you overcome it?

  3. Act on your role as a grace-giver: What is one specific, tangible way you can offer faithfulness, godly habits, or grace to a younger or older person in your immediate family or community this week?
