Big Nose
What kind of hats do you wear? Between our families, jobs, and faith, responsibilities pile up fast. As we juggle all these hats, we often fall into a very human trap: we confuse authority and prominence with significance.
Our culture is obsessed with prominent "influencers" who sit at the front of the room. Yet, God defines significance differently. Consider your own body: your nose is prominent—everyone sees it—but your heart is what truly sustains you. It’s hidden, protected, and deeply significant. Your worth isn’t wrapped up in a title or who’s in charge; your significance is found in who God created you to be and the price Jesus paid for you.
God’s Design
In 1 Corinthians 11, Paul lays out a framework for our relationships that often makes modern culture uncomfortable: responsibility, authority, accountability, and submission. Our greatest arguments will always be about who gets to decide. Let’s be honest. You just don’t like to be told what to do. No one does.
Yet Biblical submission is a loving response of devotion willingly given to a faithful leader. It’s choosing to set aside your preferences without compromising your values so that you can walk with others. The Trinity is an amazing example. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit exist in perfect equality and operate in beautiful harmony. They are three distinct persons and one sovereign God. The Trinity exists in a condition of mutual submission.
For men, the challenge is clear: we experience God’s favor when we accept responsibility, honor authority, pursue accountability, and practice submission.
Uncovering Christ
At its core, leadership isn't about control; it’s about imitation. Paul boldly writes, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ” (1 Cor. 11:1).
The words you use and the actions you choose either cover up Christ or help people experience the riches of His grace. Worship, repentance, and daily devotion - these disciplines help us uncover Christ for the world to see.
Don't be a spectator in your own home, church, or community. Wear the right hat. Step up and reveal the glory of God to a world that is watching.
Reflection Questions
In what areas of your life (home, work, or church) are you chasing prominence rather than enjoying the significance you have in Christ?
Reflect on Paul’s challenge to "imitate me." If your children, spouse, or friends copied your regular spiritual habits exactly, what would their relationship with God look like?
What is one practical way you can "uncover Christ" for people this week?
